Frequenty Asked Questions
All your questions & concerns answered.
Is cupping therapy painful?
Dry and fire cupping are generally painless, often described as a tight, pulling sensation. Wet cupping (Hijama) involves tiny, superficial pricks that feel like a quick scratch or a pinprick; most clients find it very tolerable and even relaxing.
How long do the circular marks last?
The "cupping kisses" are temporary discolorations, not bruises. They typically fade within 3 to 10 days, depending on your body's circulation and the amount of toxins drawn to the surface.
What is the difference between Dry and Wet Cupping?
Dry cupping uses suction only to stimulate blood flow and relax muscles. Wet cupping (Hijama) adds a second step where tiny incisions are made to draw out a small amount of "stagnant" blood and metabolic waste for deeper detoxification.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
We recommend fasting for at least 3 hours before a Wet Cupping session. For all treatments, please stay well-hydrated, take a warm shower beforehand, and wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.
Can I go back to work immediately after?
Yes, most clients return to their daily activities immediately. However, you may feel slightly lightheaded or very relaxed, so we recommend taking it easy and avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
Are your practitioners qualified?
Yes. Both Muhammad and Farzana are accredited members of the Hijama Association of South Africa (HASA). We adhere to strict clinical hygiene standards and use only sterile, single-use equipment.
How often should I get cupping done?
For general wellness or detox, once every 3 months is common. For chronic pain or sports recovery, we may recommend a more frequent schedule, such as once a week for a short period until the issue resolves.
Are there any reasons I shouldn't get cupping?
Cupping is not recommended for individuals on blood-thinning medication, those with active skin infections, or people with certain conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT). We always conduct a health screening before starting.
Can women request a female practitioner?
Absolutely. We prioritize your comfort and modesty. Farzana is available for all female clients, while Muhammad treats our male clients.
